Angela Moreira (39)

Course: Access to Higher Education

Angela took the Access course to help her fulfil her dream of going to University. As a mature student she lacked confidence in her ability to go back into education but was soon reassured, telling us, "I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to further their education. If anyone thinks they can't do it, they are wrong because everybody can. I liked everything about the course. At first I was scared but the teachers and all the staff at college are very friendly and supportive and everything went well. I met lots of people in the same circumstances - more mature students with family commitments."

Angela is now bound for Nottingham Trent University to study law.

Luke Clapton (19)

Course: AS Levels and A Levels

Luke joined Grantham College from the Central Technology College and achieved A levels in Maths and Accounting. He was also awarded the third highest mark in the country for Unit 3 of the Certificate of Financial Studies. His Lecturer Linda Chapman said, "This is a significant achievement for Luke who has cerebral palsy and finds written work very challenging. However, he does not let this hold him back. Achieving this certificate has given Luke an extra qualification which will give him the edge over other applicants when applying for jobs in the future."

Luke is now at University where he is studying Business and Management. He hopes to go on to do a top-up qualification at the end of his third year to enable him to go on to be an accountant.
