Lincolnshire & Rutland Advanced Apprentice of the Year
The fourth Lincolnshire and Rutland Work Based Learning Awards took place on Thursday 25th March at The Lawns in Lincoln, which saw Grantham College student Daniel Coe being presented his award for Advanced Apprentice of the Year by Lincs FM’s John Marshall and Top Gear’s first Stig, racing driver Perry McCarthy.
Daniel who is 21 and lives in Grantham is an advanced apprentice at Terry Ballaam Motor Engineers, and trained at Grantham College. Daniel said: “Becoming involved in an Apprenticeship has been the best thing ever. Leaving school and not knowing what I wanted to do was daunting but as soon as I got my placement my outlook on everything changed. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity.”
Daniel has worked extremely hard, achieving his Automotive Advanced Apprenticeship ahead of schedule as well as recently taken an MOT course now making him a fully qualified MOT tester, being the first out of his peer group to do this. The garage’s owner Terry Ballaam who was there to support Daniel during the evening said: “His attitude to work is great. Nothing is too much trouble. I believe people buy people first, and my customers buy Danny. Danny’s presence has increased sales and customers.” Daniel said of winning the award: “I want to thank my boss for taking me on and giving me the opportunity and also everyone at Grantham College.”

Winner: Around the World Hair Show
Grantham College 2009/2010
Lisa started her Hairdressing Apprenticeship with Lox’s of Love in Grantham where she stayed for 2 years before moving to UK Hair and Holistics where she is completing her Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship.
Lisa, along with her two models, took part in Grantham College’s 2010 Hairdressing show, with this year’s theme being “Around the World”. Judges Amanda Mosek, Vice Principal of Grantham College, Elaine Lilley, Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire & Rutland Education Business Partnership, Craig Fawkes , Salon owner of “Headroom” Guildhall Street, Grantham and Neil Brumfield, Teacher of Hairdressing at Djanogly City Academy, Nottingham named Lisa as this years winner, who was presented her award by Linda Houtby, Principal at Grantham College.
Lisa said “My models are representing the arctic circle. There are 6 months of daylight and 6 months of night which I am showing with the different contrasts of hair, make-up and clothes which I designed to bring the total look up to date with a twist."
Belinda Roberts, Hairdressing Assessor at Grantham College said “Lisa has worked so hard to produce a fantastic look for this year’s show, with so much thought and creativity going into her overall look. The Hair Show forms part of the Lisa’s ‘practical evidence’ towards her NVQ Level 3, which she has worked so hard for over the last 3 years.”
